His writing career in Nepal started with a two year stint as Chief Editor of the Journal of the Nepal Medical Association starting in 1965/66. He has also been Chief Editor of the Journal of the Institute of Medicine from 1983 to 1992. He has a number of articles to his credit and has been involved as Editor of Vols I, II & III of the Annotated Health Sciences Bibliography of Nepal, covering the periods 1950-77, 1978-87 and 1988-94 respectively. His book about health in Nepal was first published in 1995 under the title The Quest for Health. A recent contribution to non-fiction is Fifty Years of NMA.
Besides being an occasional contributor to various newspapers of Kathmandu, he has written one children's story book and five other novels under the pseudonym Mani Dixit. His first work - Chandra & Damaru - Boys of Nepal was written then, though published much later. It is a work for children which has been reissued twice, first as Two Towards Kantipur and later as The Adventures of Chandra & Damaru - Two Boys of Nepal. Following his schooling in India he completed his medical training in the United Kingdom. Returning to Nepal, he involved himself in medical work and teaching medical students.
The Red Temple, his second book is a novel set in Pokhara in the days of the hippie cult, free sex and drug taking. Come Tomorrow, his third work of fiction, is about fortunes of a Gurkha family during the first seventy five years of the 20th Century. The setting is Nepal and Burma, the present day Myanmar. His fourth work entitled Over The Mountains tells of the trade and travels over the Himalayas in Tibet through the then entrepot trade town of Bhaktapur. It also deals with the day to day affairs in the Nepal of the nineties. His fifth work, written for those young at heart and titled Annapurna Fantasy is a satire on the Nepalese political scene of the nineties. His latest work, Conflict in the Himalayas, with a setting of Everest climbing, deals with the political complexities and gun running in present day Nepal. The Avenging Ghost, his latest work, is a collection of poetry written years ago, but only revised recently and being published now. Hopefully this work will contribute towards presenting a variety of his output.. Recently he has brought out an book of light humour entitled Nonsense Verses from Nepal. Another political satire Friend's Colony is in the process of being printed.
Mani Dixit is a member of PEN Nepal.
